    Back from the fray
So... back I am, and thinking about Escapade.

The panel on "Slashing the Slashers" had all kinds of bits to mull. One that caught my interest: the idea of slash as a continuation/renewal of the strong, intimate friendships between women in the 19th century. I don't think slashing fits neatly into any one paradigm (which is undoubtedly why we're all still struggling to figure it out), but this has a definite appeal and truth to it. The stories we write are sexy and there is a secret and illicit delight in sharing them with each other. But what we share, both in our stories and with each other outside of that, is often as intimate and personal as it is sexy. We want to connect with each other, understand and be understood.

On another note... I loved the "Slash Library" that the con hosted. What a lovely idea! Share your slash with each other for the duration. Find a bedtime story. And of course, I did. I'd heard of the S/H zine "Murder on San Carmelita." Classic, and all that. Well, I can now affirm that it's well worth the read. The premise is not unfamiliar to me now (I've read a number of "go undercover as gay and discover we're gay" stories), but it worked for me here. The descriptions of their deepening relationship (double entendre intended) are lovely.

    escaping to escapade
Well, tomorrow I'm heading up to Oxnard, (a city that I'm sure will be much improved by the presence of a couple hundred slashers), for Escapade. Sounds like the con is going to have some interesting panels. The History of Fandom looks particularly good. How did this business get started, anyhow? I'd like to know more. And vids are Saturday night. I *do* enjoy vids. I have BASCon 2001 & 2002 vidshows, and there are several vids on each that I can just watch over and over.

Sonyhow, it looks to be a very slashy weekend.

Now, if I can just get a little sleep tonight...

    Beginnings
After reading some lovely stories (due South and Sentinel respectively) at brooklinegirl and lamardeuse's lj's, I've decided to give this medium a try. (Technology! Ack!) I guess I'm hoping an lj will allow me to keep connected with slasher friends and provide a new medium for story sharing. We'll see! Feel free to say hey.
